2016 Lexus GX Info Specs Review
The GX has first been launched back in 2002 while the current model has been around since 2009. Its platform though has been around for more than a decade now and even though it is a luxury crossover, it uses the same platform as the 4Runner which is a much cheaper car. This is the main reason why Lexus is actually going to rethink the GX altogether and the 2016 Lexus GX is going to be an all new car rather than just a mild facelift like the 2015 model was. The biggest change over the ongoing model is the platform and this is because the new GX will actually use a uni-body design more similar to that of its competitors.
Exterior of 2016 Lexus GX
The exterior design of the 2016 Lexus GX will also change quite a bit over the current model. In fact, early rumors suggested that it would be very similar to the RX and it would just use a longer back end. However, this is unlikely to happen, especially since the GX is a more premium car. However, it will get design cues from both the RX as well as from the other current models and we should see a bolder design which will likely be aimed at young families.
2016 Lexus GX Interior
Inside the cabin everything is going to be new. The new GX will offer up to seven seats and even more room than before for both luggage and passengers. This will be possible thanks to the removal of the dedicated ladder chassis. On top of that, the base trim level should be better trimmed than before with standard premium leather upholstery, triple zone automatic climate control, satellite navigation as well as an infotainment system and a lot of safety features which are likely going to make it one of the safest cars in its class.
2016 GX Engine
Engine wise, the 2016 Lexus GX will finally be able to drop the old 4.6 liter V8 which is both old and not that efficient. In fact it has been criticized as being only average in performance but tremendously fuel thirsty. It will very likely be changed with an all new 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which has the potential to offer up to 340 horsepower and more than 350 lb-ft of torque. This is more than the current V8 and it would be able to do it all while using even less fuel, making it one of the more interesting choices in its class. A hybrid has also been rumored for quite some time now and the car now has a real chance to get the same hybrid powertrain found in the RX which combines a 3.5 liter V6 with an electric motor in order to offer more than 300 horsepower and more than 30 MPG on the highway. Both of them would come as standard with all wheel drive and both of these choices would only be available with an 8 speed automatic.
Release date and Price of new 2016 Lexus GX
This should allow Lexus to lower the weight of the car considerably and it should also make it quite a bit better on the road. However, the off-road capabilities of the current model will be greatly diminished which is not such a big problem, especially since most of its buyers will actually never use it in off-road. The release date for this upcoming model is likely going to be some time in the late 2016 while the production model could be out by the start of 2017. Its price will be similar to that of the current model meaning it should cost around $50,000. The biggest advantage is that it will finally be able to compete with cars such as the X5 or even the Q7, both of which are more fuel efficient, more powerful and a lot more refined.
